Reap Goodness

“As you sow, so shall you reap” is not just a well known proverb. Arguably, it is a widely accepted belief. The world believes and agrees to this proven saying. That every action has a reaction. What we experience today is what we have sown yesterday; what we sow today decide our tomorrow’s destiny. Even the Bible says so. That right from the beginning, ever since creation came into existence God has established this law forever. “As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest,…” (Genesis 8:22 NLT). We might have sown something unaware of the consequences. Yet we ought to reap it’s fruit irrespective of the result. We like it or not, we will reap it because this is an unchanging process. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7).

We cannot influence or cease this process mainly because it is the nature of a land to produce. “Then Jesus said, “God’s kingdom is like seed thrown on a field by a man who then goes to bed and forgets about it. The seed sprouts and grows—he has no idea how it happens. The earth does it all without his help…” (Mark 4:26-29 MSG). It is the earth that brings forth fruits based on what is sown. If this is an unchangeable process, what shall we do if we realise that something unlikely was sown, yet beg for a different result. There is only one way to change the result. The land where the seed was sown has to be changed. “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (II Chronicles 7:14).

It is Repentance that brings healing of our land(heart). The moment we repent and turn from our wicked ways, our land is healed to produce goodness. “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). Most of us believers have received the remission of our sins through baptism. But it is not just that alone. It requires repentance along with it. It takes to work out our own salvation (Phil 2:12), believing in Christ who enables us to do anything and everything (Phil 4:13).

It is in that land(heart) that is healed, joy and light are now sown (Ps 97:11). How and when did it happen? “But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain” (John 12:23-24). Jesus was sown for us. Now, the land that is healed shall produce goodness because Jesus is sown into it. This land keeps producing goodness little by little effortlessly. Out of this land comes love for hatred; good for evil.

If you look towards reaping goodness in your life, repent and believe in that which has already been sown for you according to Psalm 97:11. As you believe in Jesus, let Him bring the change in you gradually because He is that incorruptible seed sown for us.
